Can you just buy the books?

When you sign up for the exams (eg units 30, 5 and 6) are you required to specify your approved training college?

I am just about to enrol on my advanced cert.

When I did unit 30 I barely used the tutors' services

£150 or so for a nice glossy folder with some past papers in it (which i could have downloaded from the AAT website anyway)

Could you not just buy the textbook for each unit for £20, read it and do all the exercises?

    Did you pass first time?

So there's no requirement to specify which college you're at?

Which book do you reckon is best? I used Kaplan for unit 30. Quite liked the layout and the exercises; was generally easy to read and well written. Did have quite a few errors in it; most were obvious but some were not and really confused me. Can't really comment though as have never seen any other books
