Hi,

I have nearly completed intermediate level (self funded) and am currently working outside the industry. I don't want to leave my current job due to income/security/flexibility etc but need to gain some experience and use my qualification.

Ideally i'd like to work 1 day a week for someone else but without the experience feel it would be hard to convince someone to take me on.

Any suggestions, how did everyone else get in to the industry, and what type of businesses would be suitable?

Thanks in advance

I was a waitress before i got this post! I just kept searching the job site until this post came up with AAT study support. They where looking for people they could mould. I had zero experience (except i has A level accounting and business). You jsut got to keep looking. Fingers crossed :D

HAVE YOU TRIED VOLUNTEERING TO GAIN THE EXPERIENCE. TRY www.do-it.org.uk. I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM, I HAVE NOW HAD AN INTERVIEW WITH AGE CONCERN, JUST WAITING FOR MY REFERENCES TO CLEAR THEN HOPEFULLY I CAN START GAINING SOME EXPERIENCE WHILST HELPING OTHERS.

If you are in a stable job is there no option of internal positions?? I started with my company in the call centre, then after 2 years decided to do AAT, was due to leave when a position for Trainee Accountant came up, I was way under qualified but had never seen a job in finance advertised before so applied (bit of persuasion from my manager who was supportive in my change of career!) and although under qualified I was given an interview, was the worst one ive EVER had but from that I got a call to say they wernt offering me the position but would speak to a chap in Accounts Payable for the company as they wanted to help and didnt want me to leave the company, I got that role and now one job later I actualy work under the bloke that first interviewed me!!! He liked my attitude to get into the industry and it payed off. If you dont try you will never know!!!

You could try advertising on Gumtree, volunteering, offering to help with business start-up charities, or ask for some long-term work-experience in the public sector (which would have you dealing with BIG budgets). I went for public sector, & got offered a contract after a few months which any graduate would envy. Show that you're willing, passionate about your area & what you're 'made of', & anyone would be mad not to offer you a position. Wishing you the very best of luck, Angeltastic & Sannyt.x
