I am about to advertise to do some basic bookkeeping for sole proprietors, I would like to obtain some free/cheap software and wonder if any of you have any recommendations?
Thanks

Microsoft Accounting Express is free to download from Microsoft website, but haven't had much experience with it.

I've used microsoft a little bit and it's pretty easy to use. I don't like the look of the reports it produces but you can change them. I can recommend trying it

The new Computer Shopper magazine (October 09 issue) has a five page article briefly reviewing eight different small business accounting packages. Free doesn't always equal the best option and it's usually worth investing a little money at the front end to save a lot of hassle and time at the back end. An accounts programme might cost £100 but what price a terminal software failure that can't be salvaged?
