Government grants

Hi
Please could some one help.
One of my small sole trader clients has taken on an apprentice. Due to the fact that he is a small business he is eligible to receive £30 a week as a government grant towards the apprentices wages.
My question is.
Would I post this as income to the accounts and have him pay tax on it or post as an offset to the expense line of wages, not show as income and not pay tax on it?
Regards
Julia
