Changeover letters - response time?

Hi there, I'm just wondering how long it typically takes an accountancy firm to respond to a changeover letter and request for documents? I sent my first letter last week but haven't had any reply.

Also, this client is so disorganised he doesn't even have his own VAT registration number to hand. I was able to get his company registration number from Companies House, but is there a way to look up a company's VAT number?

Thanks again for the help!

I usually get a response in 1 to 2 weeks, suppose could take longer at the moment due to it being holiday season.

You'll be able to get your client's VAT number from his previous accountant, failing that he either waits for a VAT return, although obviously he should have a certificate somewhere and/or his previous accountant may have filed on line, or your client will have to contact the VAT office and request it.
