I've never watched any of his Friday night shows but have heard how amazing they are.. so, I watched how to beat a casino on Friday and thought it was completely staged and..... he bet on the wrong number!!?!

Clearly, you've never watched Jonathan Creek or the masked magician.
Just because the "randomly" selected audiencee says they've never met Derren Brown before - which may well be true - it doesn't mean they're still not part of the trick themelves. Derren even admits it's all about distraction, so deflecting your focus away from the fact that the person is a plant is all part of it. Since the trick couldn't work with multiple audience members, how he comes up with something to select the plant from the many genuine people is harder but if you add in enough criteria, it's easy to exclude everyone else and narrow it down to just the one person you need. In essence, when he turns to the audience and seems to ask his "general" questions, he's unnoticably being extremely specific and eliminating them en masse rather than including them.0 -

they are randomly selected. He throws frisbies and stuff into the audience at live shows to chose people0 -
I'm only talking about his TV shows, but seeing as I don't believe real magic exists, there has to be some other way of doing it. Maybe there are pockets of plants in certain sections of the audience he can throw at and he's better at frisbee throwing than he makes out? And if he got the wrong person, there would no doubt be other contingencies in place. The worldwide art of illusion must be a billion dollar business and the trick creators earn vast fortunes themselves so it's not hard to contemplate.
The only other alternative is that yes, he can win the lottery when he wants to which I seriously cannot believe!0 -

well yes i have watched every one of the masked magician and find them very good but he only he only shows you how he would decieve the audiance and that. but im sure there are many different ways that things can be put as misleading and as for the lottery trick and guessing the 6 numbers.....the only explanation that i have come up with is that he used a split screen and someone just placed the numbers in the holder while they were coming out !0 -

of course i dont believe magic is real. But i dont think what he does is staged in the sense that he has some of the audience in on it. He's just very talented at what he does and sneaky at hiding how its done0 -
Ever see the one where the masked magician made an elephant appear within a square of volunteers behind a big screen? Turned out, every single person involved was part of the trick: maybe over a hundred people, the elephant previously hidden behind a backdrop of painted trees simply marched up to and behind the screen, while all the time the camera that was panning the square of people was deliberately angled so you never saw the elephant slowly walking up. Probably took loads of takes to get it right.
The solutions are nearly always so simple but almost impossible to figure out.0 -
i do think some of his stunts are used by plants and that but i think a lot of his stunts are done by persuation and making the person pick the one that he wants , like that matchbox with loser and winner last night , obvious he knew which one it was in and he could basically carry on till it was in the right box !....... but if anyone thinks they know most of how to do the tricks they should of watched david blaine 2 weeks ago,,,, some of his trick were amazing !0

dont like the masked magician. Criss Angel is better0

i do wonder on some of his shows on if he is actually showing oyu how they do it or a way that they could do it . so that way they can still do the trick and when your looking at one point for how you think its being done the trick is being done a different way !0 -

I think it's just a basic placebo effect very cleverly disguised: you believe because you want to believe and you're not given enough time to dwell or analyse.
Did you see the one where he played an inaudible tune and asked if it meant something to someone? Now we couldn't hear the tune ourselves and neither could anyone else apart from seemingly one audience member. Realistically, no-one would ever admit to hearing something they couldn't in case they were found to be fibbing under questioning and it's likely there may not have been any tune at all, so there's your elimination process.0 -

I have seen Derren live too, and he is amazing, its very difficult these days for a man/woman to re-invent illusions and tricks to make them seem completely different to earlier versions, so for that alone the guy deserves his success for carving out his own unique style, he does manipulate peoples thought processes and play to the sub-conscious mind and understands really complex Psychology, i think the way he marries that with the principles of illusion are fantastic. What a job to have!!0

it is true thou that there are many many magicians and they are all very alike but darran brown has his own style and i think hes good.....but i think david blaine is amazing ?0
