Hi All,
We have been given some formulas in our class that we need to learn for the dec exams - PEV & PCR. There is 2 ways of setting the formula out and we were told to not learn the one in the book as they were too complex, is there an easy way of remembering the variance formulas to help me get through?? I am struggling to remember them, which is having a knock on effect with my past exam paper revision!
Its the ones that have 4 parts to them (forgive me for the terrible memeory if not correct)
something like:
SP x AQ - AP X SP (I know this is incorrect) there are obviously 4 formulas for the labour, materials, fixed o/h etc but does anyone have any tips for remembering them?? SQ is always the one that I fall back on when i do have it written down.

My top tip would be to look at past exams. Print them ALL off, do one section on one paper a night. Then start again. You WILL get it. 2 weeks before the exam I was in tears thinking I would NEVER pass. I did the above and pass the June 09 exam.0

Hi Dobbie,
Did you do a section of each paper per day or just one section from pev one day and one from pcr the next? It isnt sinking in for me yet either!0 -
I'm the same... I can't believe the exams are nearly here.. I feel quite sick!
I can't get the variances to sink into my head, I've done the past exam papers about twic each and still no joy0 -
I know, the exams seem to have come around so quick and im cursing myself for putting in for 2 exams. Im hoping after the revision course I'll understand a bit more, but they havent got one for pcr near me so I'm f'doozled with that! lol0

Hi All,
I posted a panicked email on here a couple of days ago about the formula. I now have a few pages that seem to help make sense of them from my tutor, if anyone would like them please email me and I'll forward them on!

Hi JoW :-)
It was only really the variance which stumpt me, so I did these night after night, then the rest I learnt from the book as you cant depend on just learning past papers (as you know)
But I found this REALLY helped me with variance.
You will get it I promise.
PCR is just a lead on from PEV and I found ok, you'd be surprised how much you do actually know in the exam!!!
Good luck xx0
