Receipts ?

Has anyone ever had or seen a proper VAT receipt from either boot or M&S. We get loads of expense claims and these two never seem to give a breakdown for the items - especially annoying for food and drink.

I've contacted both of them and Boots say you have to fill in a form and M&S simply said they can't itemize the VAT on their receipts. Am I wrong in thinking that this isn't correct practice, or have people been able to get proper receipts when asked?
