    Hi Taskey,
I haven't got this far yet but looking at your example it seems to me that the limiting factor would be finishing as this is the only area where the hours required for the total production exceed the hours available

small medum Large Production Production Production Total hours
units units units Hours Hours Hours per area
    0.05 0.07 0.08 40 42 56 138

    0.04 0.08 0.1 32 48 70 150

    0.1 0.09 0.09 80 54 63 197

    800 600 700

    Don't know if this helps

    I'll get you started:

Start with a line under "Number of units to be produced" called "mixing labour hours for full production". Fill it in. For small units that's 800 units * 0.05 hours/unit = 40 hours. Do the same for medium and large to get 42 and 56 respectively.

Repeat the process for Finishing and Packing hours.

Add a 'total' column on the right. Add up the number of hours you need at each stage for full production, and compare to the number available.

EDIT: oops, ToffeMadBlue had already posted.

fab thanks for your answers. i will have a look and see if it is any clearer.

it is frustrating when my book gives me half a page and that is all.

    Once again, thanks

Apart from one of your friends telling you to eat them and another asking are they like the X Factor, did you get much help with this topic off your Facebook friends Tracy? :-)
