Hi, I have the Osborne book (new edition) for DFS, but I am really confused. I have missed a couple of classes on DFS for personal reasons and feel I am really "not getting it".Does anyone have any easy to follow general notes to assist me - I more or less understand the Income statments and statement of financial position but consolidated company accs are really confusing me. My tutor is a bit fast for me and I find it hard to get any help from her, thought I would ask on here and then spend sometime brushing up whilst on half term next week - all help gratefully received

Steve Collings postings are excellent on any of DFS topics and in particular he is an expert on the IAS and accounting standards. I always look forward to read his postings.

I have used the AAT forum's search facility and entered "Consolidated" and it has come up with lots of postings. I found some of the theads going off tangent and it takes time to go through them all to look for what I want.

However, the couple of links below may be what you are looking for.

The key to dealing with any type of consolidation is to deal with it in a logical manner. If you apply a scattergun approach, you will lose sight of the question.

There are a lot of complexities inherent with consolidations, but I have written an article on the consolidated statement of comprehensive income (which is not frequently examined. There is also one on the consolidated statement of financial position.

Hopefully these will help you understand the issues surrounding consolidations a bit better. I am also going to run a couple of courses on DFS in Manchester and Birmingham in the next few weeks, if these locations are convenient for you. Dates will be announced after the results release.

    Kind regards
    Steve

I too found steves articles and advice helpful when I was studying DFS. What Steve does not know about DFS isn't worth knowing! I also found his book really helpful -he is definately an accounting standard guru!
