Hello all,
I have been asked to get involved more with our company accounts and they are prepared under IFRS as we are on AIM. I need a reference manual for IFRS and have heard that the one by Steve Collins is quite good. Has anybody used this and what do they think? Could I use it for everyday reference?
Thanks. X.

The book you mention is called:
The Core Aspects of International Financial Reporting Standards and International Accounting Standards - ISBN 1438993196.
I bought a copy when I was studying for DFS in December 09. Read through it and it was helpful - it is now for sale for ยฃ10.50 + postage if you would like it!
Private email me if you are interested.0 -
Hi,
My book can be used as a reference guide to IFRS/IAS as that was the initial objective of the book. The book has not been updated for the issuance of IFRS 9, but I have published an article which outlines this new standard which will replace IAS 39 eventually.
Kind regards.

Hi steve
Were can I get a copy of your book?0 -
Hi Cornflower,
I think it's better if you go through Amazon as I believe despatch is quicker.
There is a link here to that and my next book for preorder (if you're doing any audit related papers in future) - just click on my name and it will take you to my books.
Regards

Thanks steve. I am starting ACCA in september as my company has now agrreed to pay for it so your other book will come in handy. I am also going to buy Claire Finch's book as well as I believe that is good. I struggled with accounting standards at AAT so will need all the help I can get!0
-
Hi,
You would do well to purchase Clare Finch's IFRS book. No FR student should be without that!!0 -
Steve why is the audit book not out until next year? This would have helped me as my exam is next month.0
-
Yes Steve why haven't you written this quicker? Surely you have nothing else to do but to provide resources for students - I mean it's not like you're a full time accountant or anything!!0

My thoughts exactly. Steve I think you should look to superman for a bit of guidance.0 -
I've already e-mailed James Cameron asking him why the bloody hell I can't buy 'Avatar 2' on DVD yet.
Some people are just so goddamn lazy.0 -
I asked Steve a question and got insults in return. Blobby's feeble replies I expect but the others I didn't.
Steve can you provide some sensible answers to my question please?0 -
Its a good movie too robert0

Jesus wept Glynis, you've already been given the answer to your question but as always par for the course with you, have chosen simply to ignore it and continue harassing Steve. Steve is fed up to the back teeth of you.
At what point did Steve become your sole consultant not only to help you through AAT but now through ACCA? If you've based your future career on hoping Steve will come to your beck and call each time you're stuck you'll be very much mistaken.
As was advised by many people, many months ago, you should have shown more thought about the new qualification before you started it. You really do need to stand on your own two feet without basing all your hopes on someone else coming along to rescue you each time.
Every time you come here Glynis you insult people when you don't get what you want, in the time frame that you want it. Thus you'll get them back and if I really wanted to go to town on you, it wouldn't be too hard with the amount of ammunition you provide.0 -
How dare you! Has steve told you he sick to death of me? I don't expect steve to be my consultant as you say but I am a distance learner who is trying to make a career under stressful circumstances. I am not able to afford lavish tuition from BPP etc so rely on these forums to help me.
you obviously don't like me and I don't like your attitude!0 -
There are polite ways to ask questions0

Hello Glynis
You sure seem to be struggling with your audit paper. With respect Steve can't wave a magic wand and get you through it, it will take a lot of effort on your part. We are teaching revision for ACCA June so you are late for enrolling on our courses but have you thought about deferring until December as that will give you more time.
Also bear in mind that F8 has a new examiner this sitting so if you do deCide to defer you will see her style of examining.
Julia.
P.s steve love the bio on Amazon!0 -

I've just purchased Steve's book, which is proving very useful in my DFS revision! I didn't know Claire had a book too on IFRS, is this worth getting too or is it more suitable for ACCA studies?0
-
Hi Esme,
Clare's book is definitely worth buying and you can use it for further studies.

Steve0 -
I used it for the final paper at ACCA so I can guarantee you will use it all the way through!0
