Not sure if this is a stupid question but once I have qualified AAT am I able to call myself an accountant?

I am thinking about going self employed and would like to know what services I could offer being AAt qualified. Obviously this would be more than bookkeeping services but are there any limits to what services I can offer?

I would also be grateful for any tips on where to start off on your own!!

I don't think there is a specific level of qualification you have to achieve before being able to call yourself an accountant. However, I would imagine most people would suppose it to mean a person who has achieved a chartered qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.

I passed the AAT course last year and describe myself as an Accounting Technician for work purposes but I suppose others may differ in their opinion (for example some people may call themselves accountants who are qualified by experience).

The services you are able to offer will largely depend on you own practical experience and competence.
