Where do i go from here
Hi Andy

CIPFA is for the public sector. If you want to do ATT then you will want to specialise in tax. If you want a more general senior qualification and still want to work in practice you are better off studying for ACA or ACCA qualifications. Only these two will allow you to sign off audit. ACCA will award 2-3 exemptions for having completed the AAT Technician level.

Don't choose any qualification based on it's length or fast-track status. choose the one that best fits your future career plans.

Good Luck

Alexander0 -

Where do i go from here
Alexanda

Thank you for your reply. I will think long and hard about my next step. I want to know more about personal & business tax so that I may have the confidence to advertise to potential clients, sole traders, partnerships etc with the knowledge that is required to accomplish the task.

On AAT I did a devolved assessment on Personal Tax Computations but feel totally inadequate in many areas.

Andy0 -
Where do i go from here
Hi

If you wish to go self employed in the future, make sure you are aware of the relevant regulations of the body you are with. ACCA wont allow a self employed member to carry out public practice work unless they hold a public practice certificate. Basically this means that if you are a self employed ACCA member, you wont be able to do anything more advanced then general book-keeping (to trial balance), VAT, pay roll admin etc and you wont be able to refer to your connection with the ACCA, unless you hold an ACCA public practice certificate or equivalent. If you wish to gain a public practice certificate or qualify as an auditor, you will need to complete at least 3 years in an approved organisation, 2 of which must be after qualifying as an ACCA.

Neil0 -
Where do i go from here
Hi Neil

Many thanks.

This is informative. I don't necessarily need to be self employed, but to gain ground in an accounting career. I have just found aout the CIMA (stand alone ) Business Taxation qualification and it appears to be in line with what i need.

You seem well informed !. Can I ask your position and can I seek future guidance from you should the need arise.

Andy0
