Hi

I'm really confused about the following. I'm doing the Diploma pathway and thought that Professional Ethics could be done at Level 3 or 4, it is the only unit i need to complete level 3. but do i need to do it as i've started level 4 and its no longer a unit for this level? hopefully will pass DFS, MAC, Unit 10 and PTC by June 2011, i already have unit 15 CMCC from level 3, so think i don't need to do BTC??? i have also been on the BPP website to see whether to stay on old standard or new standard and it doesn't mention Professional Ethics at level 3 unless i'm doing the new standard.

Please can someone clear this up for me as its really confusing :-(

Thanks

Under the new standards if you have done CMCC at Level 3 you dont need to do BTC at Level 4 but if you are still on the old standards (as I am) you need to do BTC at Level 4 as well as CMCC at Level 3. confusing or what????

If you transfer to the new standard after passing MAC, DFS Unit 10 and PTC no you dont have to do BTC. There was a thread on here last week where we were all cracking up about this. I had already booked and paid for both MAC and BTC when I discovered this. Having spoken to my tutor (I am Distance Learning) I have decided to sit them both and if I pass them both great but if I fail BTC and pass MAC I can then transfer to the new qualification and be qualified without doing BTC if I want to.

Not too sure about Professional Ethics as I did that last year.

Under the diploma pathway for Advance Certificate (level 3) you need to complete the following units

    Exemption from new QCF quals

    unit 5 - FRA....................................................Full exemption from AP1 & AP2 (L3)
    unit 6 - Costing...............................................Full exemtion from Costing (L3)
unit 15 - Cash Management..............................Full exemption from cash (L3) and Credit (L4) management
Unit 31 - Accounting work skills .......................Full exemptiond to Indirect tax (L3)
    Unit 32 - Ethics..............................................Full exemptions from Ethics (L3)

You are required to have fully complete level 3 to move on to level 4

If you have not fully completed level 3 under the diploma path way and have your qualifications transfered to the new QCF qualifications, you will find that you will NOT have fully completed Level 3

to fully complete Level 3 under the new quals you will be required to complete
    1- Spreadsheet module
    2 - Ethics

Conclusion:- Complete Ethics under the Diploma path way and acheive full level 3 accounting qualification.

If you have already started Level 4, without completing level 3, then the danger is that when you come to apply for the full aat membership, you may not be granted because you are required to pass both levels for the membership.

However, there was a good discussion [thread=28084]thread[/thread] on this topic.

Under the new QCF standards - Ethics is only at level 3 and therefore you are not required to complete that unit to acheive level 4 qualification under the new QCF standards

ok but i went on to the BPP AAT 2010 Interactive Guide and it ask you what pathway you are on and then asks what level you have done and which units you have passed, professional ethics is not there!

So i clicked that i have passed:

    Unit 31.1 (now 34)
    Unit 6
    Unit 5
    Unit 31.2 (now 35)
    Unit 31.3 (now 36)

and it said i had nothing else to complete if i stayed on the old standard but had to do Spreadsheets and ethics if i transfered to the new standard, can you see why i'm confused. I'm really finding the ethics hard and if i don't have to do it then i'm not going to stress over it.

If you have fully completed AAT Certificate Level, then you will have received a certificate from AAT to confirm this. Have you received a certificate from AAT?

This just confirms what I have said in the earlier post. If you convert to the QCF qualification, then you will not get exemption from the completion of Level 3 becuause you have NOT fully completed AAT Certificate level under the diploma path way.

My advise is to complete the ethics paper under the Diploma pathway and get the level 3 completed under the old standard.
