Carrying back losses

I've just phoned HMRC regarding another instance where I've asked for a loss to be carried back and it's taken AGES for the client to get their associated refund, and was told that if you calculate the refund and enter it in box 14 on the tax calculation page then it gets refunded instantly.
It's news to me, hope it helps someone else!
Unfortunately you can't submit amended returns with an entry in box 14, it won't get picked up but useful to know for the future.
