I've just had a letter from AAT saying I can enrol for a paper based exam in December. Our tutor has said that as we're now starting the Technicain level we have to do it as a CBA, but looking on here I can only see Foundation and Intermediates CBA's, Confused? Should I be registering for paper exams?(Our tutor is rather unclear and uncertain himself and hasn't the answers for us-- looks like we're the guinea pig year)

    Cba

Does anyone know where the practice CBA's are for the budget and financial performance units?

I cannot seem to find them anywhere and our tutor has said that AAT have uploaded them?

    Thanks

I cant answer your question as I am on the old route and booked in for the Paper Exams but you will need the answer quickly if you want to book for the paper exams as I think the closing date for entry is the end of October.

As you're a current student you have the choice to either stay on the old standards and complete as much as you can by June next year or move onto the new standards now. So that's why you've had the letter as some people are choosing to stay on the old standards. Under the old standards Technician level exams aren't available by CBE. Most colleges however have already moved over to the new standards which is why your tutor has told you it's a CBA, he thinks your on new standards.

As you're with a college I can't really help you with what to do as you have to do whatever the college thinks you should be doing and as they don't know themselves what they're doing I can see that that makes things difficult for you!

What I can say though is that most if not all of the new standard exams will be available by the end of the year so you can still sit the exam in December under the new standards.

To add on to Coojee's comments

You college will NOT be funded under the NVQ stadard because it came to an end in July 2010. You are likely to have been enrolled under the new QCF STANDARD which is funded as from Sept 2010.

if you sit any exams under the old standard; you are likely to create a big headache for your college and especially the funding team, because the college will not be able to claim funding for any unit completed under the old standards. ( I am sure that the funding team will not have thought about this until every thing has gone wrong and they will only become aware of this when it is far too late to do anything about it.)

You are most likely to sit the CBA exams plus a written paper after 31st Decemeber when AAT will be ready for CBA assessment. Your tutor should be aware of (only if he reads the bulletins sent out by AAT)

There are advantages and disadvantages of taking exams under the new standards

Advantages: Majority of students prefer to take computer based exams and it is fairly straught forward and easy to do. If past expericence is anything to go by, the actual CBA is more likely to be very similar to the practice CBA paper. Th results are available within 6 weeks.

disadvantage; you can not show your workings in CBA paper and therfore the concept of competency is out of the window. Your answer is eeither right or wrong. You are unlikley to score any marks for showing the workings.

My personal preference would be to give exams under the old standard. You will score marks for showing your workings even if your answer is wrong. You have a bak of last 10 exams question paper to practice from and only will have to wait for only 2 more weeks for your results. But before you enter for Dec exams make sure that your tutor is happy with it and that your college will allow it.

    CBA practice for Technicians?

Thanks guys-- I'm a lot clearer now. I've been looking for a CBA practice test for any of the Technician level. I can't seem to find any. Are they loaded on here , I can only see Foundation and Intermediate examples?

I'm currently studying Technicain level, and my college has changed from NVQ route to Diploma route so we could take the exams by CBA. I had to phone AAT to inform them of this, they changed my details straight away. When I next logged in my AAT account, it had changed to show that I was now studying the diploma route and my home page had also changed and there was a link to access the practice assessments.
