Hi, when a UK based client travel within the EEC and has expeneses there i.e hotel, meals etc, just because the place is vat registered, the vat can't be claimed can it?

It can, but not on your UK VAT return.
You need to make a separate EC claim at the end of the year.0 -
Thanks, do you claim the vat at that countries rate i.e 21% and would you do it when you have converted the currency back to pounds. Sorry, I hope that is clear enough, as I can waffle!!0

Claim at countries own rate in countries own currency. Watch out for bank charges on the transfer of any claim back to your UK account.
