I was reading up on this the other day but couldn't find the answer.

Director of company A, earns £476.25 per month, no NI payable.

Director opens company B (associated company). Can he be paid any salary at all and not incur NI?

    NI

    Hi

Surely the NI is on the person not the job/employment. Just like the PA you only get it once.

However willing to be corrected by more knowledgeable posters.

For normal employees it's per job - so if you have 5 jobs each paying £200 a month, you won't pay NI, but you will pay tax.

Directors NI is different and I trawled through the guidance notes but couldn't find a definitive answer.

I thought directors NI had upper and lower limits just like an employee apart from it was calculated annually rather than monthly and therefore 1 personal allowance.

Thanks Rachel, that's the one I was looking at but it was baking my noodle!

I think I have it straight now:

Directors have one "directors NI personal allowance" across all their directorships (if associated) and it is that, as well as the annual earnings period that differentiates it from regular employees NI.
