What can sole traders/partners claim if they have to have glasses?

Person uses computers all the time and although previously needed long distance now needs varifocal in order to use computers.

Is this allowable?

I wouldn't have thought so as they're not 'wholly and exclusively' for the use of the business?

Only if they can prove they are needed specifically for computer use, and they use a computer for a large amount of their time.

Make sure the prescription indicates this.

Agree, except specs are allowable as above if they are required for computer use and the job requires computer use.

I believe same applies to sole traders, but check the BIM (HMRC business income manual)

Does this apply to employees? I have to wear reading glasses for work, it's the only time I use them, can I claim for them?

I had to start wearing glasses and my firm paid £49 towards my first pair and I can claim for a free eye test every year.

    Thanks all.

I've said; claim for sight test but, glasses are not wholly and exclusively for work so disallowable.
