Branch Events

I've been to a few branch events now, and at the end you are asked to give feedback on venue, speaker etc The overall experience is positive and you always learn something even if the topic isn't always relevant ...
How does everyone else approach your planning of attending branch meetings? Do you go for what is relevant or with an open mind!
I'm planning on going regardless as they are good for meeting people and at the end of the day it is part of making the most of my membership ... am I one of a few or one of many ???

Karen, you are one of many who attend events. Most find it a positive experience and like you I find some of the topics are not relevent to my needs but you always learn something, even it is filed away for use later.
I have met many interesting characters through attending branch events over many years and there is always something new to learn.
I've found it helps to open other doors as well.0 -
Thank you for your reply - I think the approach of ' I might learn something ' regardless of whether the subject is beneficial or not is the best one.
It keeps your brain active - and you never know where one bit of information leads to.
A friend of mine went down a whole new career path just because of a chat with someone at a networking event !!!0 -
Same for me really , I go to most of mine. I am nearish to 3 active branches and go to most of all 3's branch events. As do several others.
Great topics locally, keeps the brain active and really good for meeting others in AAT.0 -
Like most members i live close to several branches so I attend my correct one as often as I can but also go to other local ones if there is a relevant topic. Specialising in tax and payroll means I have to be quite choosy.
But don't just attend, think about doing a presentation at some point so you can get involved and get some confidence. I have given talks to several branches where they struggle to get a payroll speaker and thoroughly enjoy it.

I am going to my first one tomorrow. It's about budgeting which should come in handy for my re-sit next month.
I'm really looking forward to it!0
