Hi everyone,
I have recently registered as a new MIP, and I just wanted to check a couple of things with you all please?

I think I have done everything required, registered as Self employed, set up insurance, registered as a MIP, business cards on way, software set up. Is there anything I may have missed? I wasn't sure whether I had to register as a data controller? Have any of you? I will be offering payroll services.

I also wondered whether there were any members near Worcester that would like to meet up for a coffee and a chat about their experiences and any advice for a new member? Coffee on me!

Thanks
Lisa

    Hi Lisa

You will need to register under the dpa.

Also give some thought to networking events such as BNI, Netlinked, Chamber of Commerce, 4N. Some work better than others but it depends on you and the group.

Yes, you need to register under the DPA.

Other than that I think you have covered all the main bases!

    Hi all,

im somewhat confused.... none of the MIP paperwork details anything about the DPA! and the website is unclear...

I can understand complying with the rules of the DPA, like issuing a LOE (Letter of engagement) however what is the purpose of an MIP registering with the DPA? is it a legal requirement and how much does it cost?

There also doesnt appear to be much info on the aat web about it!

    Thanks muchly

    P

Its not an AAT requirement its a legal requirement. Google ICO, or I gave the link above in post 6 (on mobile so can't easily link it again).

MIPs process data so have to be registered. Its 35 quid a year. Registration is dead easy.

LOEs are an AAT thing, not a DPA requirement. DPA / ICO is about keeping peoples data secure.

    Hi LisaMarie

A couple of other things, you need to be registered with a regulatory body for MLR and start the ball rolling with registering as an agent with HMRC, it can take a while.

    Agent with HMRC

How do I go about doing this? I have only ever done it though companies that already had it set up....
