Sponsorship advice please

Sorry if this is a really rookie question but I haven't come across this before.
A friend (not a client) is thinking of sponsoring a small local sports team's kit. They expect the kit will cost around £250 inc. the printing of the pubs logo on the kit and they want to know if they can claim the input VAT for this if the invoice for the kit is addressed directly to them. I can only find legislation relating to sponsoring charities.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

As they will be receiving advertising in return, I believe this is allowable, yes.0

Yes. It is classed as advertising as far as i can recall for tax purposes and as such is an allowable donation.0
