Employees pension contributions - ADO

anyone understand about ADO pension. I am looking at my husbands tax returns from 2007 and 2008 that a tax advisor completed and they have increased his tax band by his contribution into a personal pension plan but it was deducted from his payslips. It does state ADO on the payslip. any one know why it would be added to tax band if it was on the payslips, I thought it was only private one's that had the band increased. What is ADO - help please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
