evening all, I'm rather fed up and p****d off with financial statements, I failed first time round due to being ill with viral meningitis and encephalitis and not being able to study much, I appealed and got no where, even after being seriously ill the AAT didn't seem to care.

I resat the exam on 1st sept and just got my result...another fail :-(

I'm going to appeal as I need to know where I went wrong as I put so much time into revising this exam I just can't believe it. has anyone successfully had their exam result change after an appeal?

Hi Kitkat82 i have just replied to your other message. I too appealed for my both my failings and still came out with the same result but could see that i failed on the written tasks so it did help a bit. Good luck

It is a joke!!! I asked if they could give me a percentage and they couldnt but could tell me that i failed.I wanted to know how much i failed by!!!! I really do feel for you, i sat this exam in January then in June and now again in November i feel my life this year has revolved around this bloody exam!!!!

that's what i think is wrong! we should get a percentage and feedback on where we've gone wrong and to take 6 weeks to mark the exams is ridiculous!

good luck in November huni :-)

Firstly, I agree that the standard of feedback is not sufficient for people who really want to know where they went wrong and how they can improve. The AAT are letting students down with this and need to address is sooner rather than later - which, apparently, we may see some evidence of this year.

If it's any consolation, the pass rates for Financial Statements this year are really low (about 52%). My college used to have 90-100% pass rate in the old DFS paper - this year we had 48% in teh FNST CBA. I put it down to the written tasks - people always focus on the Income Statement and balancing the Statement of Financial Position and forget that they also need to know how to apply IAS's and define/summarise them too. Also, rememeber that FNST is a 2 part paper - many people forget about part 2 because they're so focussed on profit and balancing etc so the ratios and analysis based on the ratios is not covered very well.

For some guidance have a look at this Chief Assessor's statements and always check out the Accounting Technician magazine for hints etc from examiners. Also check out the support material on the learning resources section of the AAT website - plenty there to get your teeth into.

I've (finally) had my result for FNPF and have failed. I was really annoyed as this was the first exam that I have come out of feeling in anyway confident about passing. I have now had the 'feedback', and I have exceeded 5 areas, met 1, borderline 1 and dnm 3. I am more annoyed now than if I had failed all the areas! Does anyone think it would be worth paying to appeal, or should I just pay to resit?

Do you think appealing would help? It would include changing three areas you didn't meet and I don't think that's likely to happen. Then again, I've never appealed, so I don't know how much it could change.

My advice instead would be to focus on those three areas and see what you did wrong and how to avoid it in the resit!

I've learn't from appealing that unless you had a problem on the actual day i.e illness then it's not worth wasting your money or effort :001_smile:

its annoying isnt it the amount you pay for an exam, you should get some kind of feedback

Even if I passed an exam i would like some feedback, so i know what i got wrong, did i scrape a pass? or get 100%, be so much better to evaluate

But i reckon because of the mistakes in some papers, and people contacting them regarding answers they thought were right it would be too much extra work for aat
