hi guys,

i hope everyone doing well, well i have raised this question last time as well but anyway just want to make sure myself so i need your help again. i am AAT qualified and currently got a job in industry (pay is OK). i was doing BA accounting and finance degree last year, then i got this job offerd and left my study and start work. because i had my first semester result which was quite good (70%) so some of my friends saying that just finished your degree ( i was in the second year) and then you will b able to get a job and some says that stick with the job and do part time ACCA. So, now i m not sure what to do if start the second semester from this Jan the new tutition fee wouldnt apply me and aslo if i finished my degree then i will be exempted from all the F papers. and the other thing at the work place is that the working hours are quite long and obviousley ACCA is quite though....

please guys quide me or has anyone been in the same stituation like me or facing. all responses will be really appreciated

I think leaving your job would be a bad thing to do!

Just read the threads about how hard it is to find work, even with qualifications. Job and experience often goes further than either ACCA or a degree.

Also, you can still get a degree with the ACCA! By doing one extra unit you get a BSc in Applied Accounting. Besides, most employers would want you to do ACCA anyway, degree or not. Why go to the expense of doing one and then the other?

    Thanks guys,

I have really appreciated your reply, and you guys are right that gaining experience and qualification at the same time worth more than just gaining degree. But I am little confused? How is this ACCA degree work anyway if later in I wanna study Master or MBA will this be accepted as normal standard degree or not,

I did an Accounting and Finance degree full-time after doing the AAT. I now consider it a mistake to take myself out of work for that amount of time, although I got some valuable insights out of it. I'd advise against it unless you knew for certain (ie had a contract) that specified you would have a job after the degree. However, you are part-way through your degree which puts you in an interesting position. ps- Where exactly - did you complete the first year and first semester of the second year, leaving you with the second semester of the second year and the third year to go?

Have you considered the option of part-time study for the degree? Some universities will offer it, and there is the services of the Open University. You could then complete your degree and maintain or develop your work experience. I do think the more academic exploration of accounting can be valuable; professional qualifications by their nature are heavier on the 'how' than the 'why'. If you can balance the academic study with work-experience, I think it would be very valuable.

Even then, after doing the degree part-time, you will probably be expected to do ACCA or equivalent (eg CIMA). The prior study would be a massive head start, but you would still have to do some ACCA exams.

What is it you would be looking to gain from a Master's degree? I have approached several universities about their Accounting-related PhD programmes after I finish CIMA and they were mainly supportive of professionally-qualified accountants wanting to do further study, even if they don't have a Bachelor's degree. (however I do have a BSc degree and am at least a year from finishing CIMA)

    Many thanks Bookworm,

I was studying at the London South Bank University, i dont have to do first year as it was exempted upon the completion of my AAT, i dont know really have the academic qulification eg. (no A levels only 2 GCSE). and by the way i m 24yrs old as well so my age make me worry too. so still cant make my mind waht to do, some says stick with the job and do ACCA part time and some says finish your degree.

Well, having siad that i have some family commitment as well and my plan was to finish degree and go overseas eg. gulf countries as you may know british degree is quite respected in those countries, wat would you think about ACCA. i would like to do MBA from one those prestiges university after having five six year experince.
