Offering bookkeeping services...?

So we're only about a couple of hours into 2012 and I'm already looking forward to the coming year and all the possibilities and goals I've set for myself. One of which, and it may be a long shot is to offer my services, whether free or paid to local companies, clubs and charities. For a studying level 3 student is this feasible for me to do this at this stage or would I need more (complete) knowledge first? Has anyone else been in a similar position?

I also recall reading (and have found the post!) that if you are a student you are allowed to offer your services as long as you only act within your competence and don't mention the AAT.
