I have a client that is currently a sole trader but intends to incorporate in the near future. He is essentially a photographer, but uses separate trading names for weddings and photography work he does as for local Estate Agents. Ideally we would like to just have the one Limited Company, but he would like to keep his trading names. Can you set up a the one company that trades as xxxxxx and xxxxx?? Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yes a company can have different trading names, but only the actual company name will benefit from others not being able to use it. Will probably also need to notify the bank so as cheques made out to any of the t/a names can be banked.

Many thanks Ian, good points, must admit would not have thought about notifying banks of the trade names.

When the company is incorporated and goes to open the company bank account they would usually ask anyway...

Yes, but two trading names may require two separate accounts - depending on who you bank with.

You could use the offical company name, as one name of trade, and then have one other trading name?
