Hi

I want to get a new printer, mine is an awful old ink jet, any suggestions (other than going paperless!)

HP - great printers! I bought one back in the early nineties and only replaced it with another HP about 3 years ago.

How much printing do you do?

If its high I'd say HP laser, otherwise a cheap to use inkjet such as Kodak.

    What's your budget ?

I have a Canon MP495 inkjet at home. It's wireless, prints, copies & scans for about £50. I always buy Canon for home use.

If it's high volume, laser printer every time though.

I don't do much printing (just accounts, tax comps and letters) so I probably should just make do with my inkjet and stop buying cheap paper.

My budget is around £200 although this could be flexed, I ideally want a printer that will produce high quality/professional-looking docs, photocopy and scan (when I print using my inkjet the docs just look cheap, although this may be more to do with the quality of paper that I use).

    I'm thinking of either:

All good printers. It might be worthwhile checking how much replacement ink cartridges are aswell as some can be rather extortionate.

There's no fax on any of those - I use a HP Officejet 6310 and have found that I use the fax more than I thought I would! Also, I find colour can be a bonus!

The only thing that puts me off with Lasers is the cost of the toner - looking at some of those machines, for the mono's you are looking at £40+ for black toner - on a £89 machine! It's like razors and blades, they make their money on the things that you rely on to use them! For the colour one, you would be looking around the £20 mark for each one, and you'd need 4 (including black).

Not sure if that helps, :tongue_smilie:
