When posting payments that have been made.... in the net column do you put the actual payment amount in and click the net amount button which takes off the vat or not?

Guessing you are using an accounting programme like Sage?! If you have a play with it you will see.
When you enter the amount paid in 'net' then press button 'calc net' to get the actual net and VAT. But please remember to check its as it should be, I have a few times enter the gross amount in 'net' got chatting and forgotten to press 'calc net' ... nightmare!!0
