I thought I would share this one with you all.
A new client of mine in food retail has been in the habit of including personal expenses on their receipts. A recent one for sushi ingredients included Durex! Now personally, I'd have binned the receipt but she just added it to the pile for me to process.
Obviously I sniggered and have shared it, but it led me to wonder if HMRC would be prepared to allow it as a business expense since prevention of maternity leave is in the interests of continuity of staffing for the business???:001_tt2::001_tt2:

I think you will find it fails the "wholly and exclusively" test, though if you can find a reliable and proven method of apportionment, you may be able to allow a business %

Maybe it was what she needed to do to get the contract? Much like the actress on the casting couch?0 -
One of mine bought a plot in a graveyard, for himself, and tried to sneak that in. To be fair, I had told him to keep ALL receipts.0

One of our client put through expenses his cat flea treatment (supported by receipts).
And before you ask, Monsoon, he has nothing to do with Tax kitty.

Now, if your client was a farmer and he used the cat as a mouser then maybe just maybe he could claim it was an allowable expense of maintaining an asset.0 -

Now if tax kitty might need a flea treatment, I'm sure that should be allowable!0 -
