Sorry about this, hope I'm not being a pain but trawling all over various websites doesn't help and I know I'll always get an answer on here!
Does anyone know how much the syllabus changes (if at all) between exam sittings?
I'm looking at sitting in June (don't think I'll make it for December) but all of the study texts I'm looking at state that they are for Dec 2012. So, I'm wondering if I need to hold off until after then before purchasing them in case things change.
I know tax would be updated for the latest Finance Act so I'll definitely wait for that one but I'm looking at starting with F4 (Law) and F7 (Financial Reporting - or whatever it is called exactly, my brain is a bit fried at the moment!).
Any thoughts/advice as always would be most welcome.
Thank you!
Jenny

I have completed all the F papers now via self study with books only. I failed F4 & F8 but passed successfully second time around using the same books - even when the Kaplan book said for exams in Dec only. Just make sure you check that the syllabus has not changed - if it has the ACCA site will document what has changed.
What helped me is to read the ACCA online magazine (they will spam you constantly for links to different things) - and visit the web site for any technical papers that are linked to the papers that you take. ACCA also offer some free online video's on some subjects, also BPP and Kaplan - just search on YouTube for ACCA and the paper number.
Finally opentution.com updates it's FREE study notes every six months, so if anything has changed it will be covered here. They also offer free online video explanations which follows their manuals.
I hope this helps.0 -
Thanks Mini, that's good to know. I was getting a little paranoid. I've finally (only took three days) managed to register so want to get cracking. June seems like a long time away so I don't know if it's too early to start studying (if that makes sense) but I'm all excited now!
I've decided to start with F7 as I really enjoyed FNST and F4 so that I tackle at least one written paper early. I'm thinking of seeing how I get on with these, and, if I have time I'll add tax when the new books are out as that has always been my pet subject.
Don't know if three is a bit too ambitious for the first sitting but I have such a long time til the exams I figure it's worth giving it a go. Anyway, since I'm self study from the books alone like you, it won't matter if I decide closer to the time to only take two exams, at least I won't have wasted a course fee.
Thanks for the advice about looking on YouTube - I hadn't thought of that! I had a look at OpenTuition already and that seems great - especially since it's free! Although, I did check out the opening lecture for F7 and if confirmed my opinion that I could never do this in a classroom scenario!!
Thanks again (and for answering my other question - I just answered on this one for ease). I hope it doesn't seem like I'm spamming the forum!!
