How to achieve MAAT after long term unemployment ?

Hi
I have completed the AAT qualification this year and would now like to progress / apply for MAAT status.
But I have been unemployed for last 2 years and, judging by the AATs criteria, will be unable to provide suitable professional references or work experience to apply.
This would be a big boost for helping me get back to work ideally as self-employed, but unfortunately, MAAT seems to be a closed door for someone in my situation.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to get there ?
Thanks.

Hello
Have you looked into voluntary work to build up some work experience?
There are lots of posts about this and the required experience necessary for MAAT so may be worth having a search through the forum.
Good luck with it.

When I started up, many year ago now, I became a trustee for a charity and helped oversee their accounts (voluntarily). It gave good experience. You will find many charities only too pleased with an offer of free help.0

Hi moorfield,
On the volunteering front, here's a relevant article of tips: 5 ways to find work experience through volunteering

Best of luck with finding the experience you need - at least you're looking for solutions, which is the best first step.
