Self Assessment - Allowable Expenses

Hi

I have a client whom I am doing a self assessment return for - he is a freelance designer, hence sits at his desk drawing on an applemac all day. He has asked if he can claim for back clinic sessions, to help back problems brought on by working at a desk.

Would anyone be able to clarify HMRC position on this, as (for example) he also plays tennis, and has admitted these sessions also help for this sport. I have looked around for some type of reference point on this on websites/books and there is little reference to it.

I am unsure whether to tell him to forget it, and anyhow, would be interested in reading more about this area for future reference

Any input would be gratefully recieved!

Thanks

Wholly and exclusively springs to mind.

    I would certainly say no.

This link may help as it mentions self-employment:

Agreed! Wholly and exclusively does not allow for back or any other pain.
