F8 audit

Hello,
Has anyone recently self studied for ACCA F8 and perhaps used more than one text book so are able to compare? I'm using the BPP book, and whilst the BPP books have been excellent for the both AAT and ACCA so far, I'm struggling a bit with this one. I just seem to be reading the same things over and over, everything seems to be all over the place, and if something can be said in one sentence, the book likes to use 5! Is this just typical of audit books in general or are other books better?
Perhaps the style of the book just doesn't suit my way of learning. If anyone has knowledge of any other texts, particularly if they've used the BPP text too, I'd be really grateful for any recommendations. I'm actually finding the subject really interesting and think I'd enjoy audit work, but the style of this particular book is slowly draining the life out of me!
Thanks
Nicki

I used Kaplan books for my F8 paper last year.
Auditing can be tedious and I remember thinking the book expanded on areas I thought were pretty
self explanatory but other areas were not explained well enough.
Reading the auditing text book is a slog, no question.
It is best to buy some passcards after you have read the text and learn the spine of the syllabus
using them.
Once you feel confident start your question practices and build up you knowledge by making your own
notes on areas of weakness or those areas not covered in enough detail in the passcards.
Use the textbook wisely to help build your knowledge but don't attempt to learn it word for word.
F8 is based around your ability to do key things like identify control risks and remedy them, think of
substantive procedures to test the validity of financial statements, identify ethical risks, determine
the most suitable opinion for audit reports based on specific circumstances.
Just focus on the key themes.
