Exam Results

So here's a question, if the AAT can get my ICAS submission marked and back to me 3 days after I submitted it then why are we waiting 6 weeks for exam results when there are only a few areas to be marked by a human and the rest is automatically marked when we finish the exam? There's far more to read/mark in the ICAS project than there is in the exams we sit!

Just a bit baffled!

yup, it's appearing on my assessment results page:

Internal Control and Accounting System - award date 06/03/2014 - Competent. And I had an email from the training provider I used for the project to confirm I'd passed.

As far as I was aware, you submit it through LearnPlus, your college/tutor is notified and marks it, putting the result on to LearnPlus…AAT then do random 'checks' to ensure the accuracy of the marking! I presume it all has to go through LearnPlus to keep a record of what is being uploaded and of course to keep an eye of the number of submissions. This could be completely wrong though!

The training provider I used said it was an AAT assessor who marks the project rather than someone from the college/provider. Then it gets sent somewhere so AAT can verify the marking. You have to have a college/training provider in order to access learnplus - you need a centre code or something.

Blimey, in that case i'm clueless! The college I study with has a specific person who deals with ICAS/ISYS so perhaps AAT have certain people who specialise with the projects? Either way, congratulations on the pass :D

Congrats, Sam22! Would like to know - is it confirmed through LearnPlus? I sent of the ICAS project back in January and haven't got anything back on it. I don't know why. For some reason/s, it's mentioned on the AATLearnPlus website that I have yet to submit the project. But I did submit it back in January, and I'm waiting for feedback. I just don't get this.

Thanks Rachetman. I did get confirmation through learnplus. However, on my first submission I was waiting for feedback for about 3 weeks (or so I thought). I went onto learnplus out of curisosity one day to find that it said awaiting submission. I thought this odd as I had submitted a number of weeks ago. Spoke to my training provider who said that there must have been a glitch and to try again. I went in as if I was going to upload the project again and found that the assessor had marked it and there was feedback waiting for me. May be worth checking this. I think this is a bit poor on AAT's behalf not having some sort of email notification going to students when they have feedback on projects as it then eats into their deadlines if they don't realise feedback is there!

The normal practice is for the ICAS project to be assessed by the centre assessor possibly up to five times - formative assessment - and then assessed as competent (We hope) - summative assessment with the decision uploaded to LearnPlus. Within the centre it may be part of the Internal Verification sampling plan in which case the IV will check the assessment process has been carried out correctly and upload IV documentation to LearnPlus and process to AAT. If it is not part of the sample process the IV will select 'accept' and it will be sent to AAT via LearnPlus.

At any stage the External Verifier from the AAT can access LearnPlus and sample the process. On an annual basis the EV will sample x amount and there will be a standardisation procedure across centres.

Hope that this helps .... as to why the six weeks waiting period for CBA's to have their results released that is a subject that has people groaning all over the country - but this is inline with CIMA, ACCA etc.

Exactly, Sam! AAT, I thought, would have emailed on the goodness of the project. If they provide email notifications for the results of computer-based assessments, why not for the ICAS/ISYS project? I feel like I failed the project and have to do it again, even though I did everything I was asked to do.

Did you check to see if you did have any feedback Rachetman?? Try and speak to your training provider - I did this and they extended my time. Even if there isn't an email notification, perhaps stating on the assessment in learnplus that there is feedback waiting. Jules18 - inline with CIMA, ACCA etc, however those exams are understandably a 6 week wait as the whole thing is a written exam and needs marking and there are only 2 sittings a year so there will be hundreds of papers to mark.

Hey Sam. Spoke to my training provider, got feedback on the project, made the necessary corrections and sent the revised version back via email. Incredibly, I couldn't upload it to LearnPlus as it says, under "Assessment Status", "Assessment Expired". Which explains the email.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare! At least you've got your feedback and made your changes so quickly!! Fingers crossed you'll get your next lot of feedback quickly!!

To further confuse you, there was someone on the AAT facebook page that got a level 4 exam in 4 weeks flat. So this is why people are getting twitchy and annoyed with AAT 6 week wait cos its not like everyone is the same :(

It is crazy the wait time! You could understand if it were a whole written exam being marked then you may need 6 weeks to get through all papers but there's only 3 SMALL written questions on each exam at Level 4. They're hardly essay style questions - maybe AAT need to employee more assessors to get through the workload!

I'm on the 4 week to the day point for my External Auditing Exam and nothing so far, I've never (apart from the above ICAS) had exam results back before week 6.
