PTX - rent a room part year furnished part unfurnished

If accommodation is unfurnished for part of the year then furnished for a few months can you claim rent a room allowance? Could not find anything on the help sheet http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/helpsheets/hs223.pdf

The help sheet says
- The exemption limit of £4,250 is not reduced for periods of letting of less than 12 months.
so I guess you can claim it for the part it is let furnished. However are you sure this falls under the condition of rent-a room allowance (i.e a lodger in your own home?)
Unfurnished rental income will have to be declared separately.0 -
