Financial performance task 6 help!

Could anyone who has passed this exam tell me if task 6 of sample assessment in Q.b. Page 201/220 can be done any simpler than wordy answer given at the back? Can I just write first paragraph similar to the answer in the book and do rest of calculations as we do when doing normal workout for.e.g. A) total material cost variance, 
material price and usage variance and then just explain why is it adverse or favourable, will that be suffice or do we need to do wordy as book, sounds complicated to me? I would really appreciate your help!
