HELP! studying towards level 3 and struggling to find a job

Hello everyone,
I have passed AAT level 2 last year and now I'm studying towards level 3 Diploma. One of learning providers that specialises in helping with apprenticeships have told me, even though there isn't an age limit, being 24 is too old for it. My main problem is not having previous experience in accounting. I have tried to find a job in fields of accountancy (assistant job positions). I've applied for permanent, temporary, full-time/part-time, even voluntary work. I've tried getting in touch with businesses on the phone, emails, online job applications, replying to job offers in newspaper and I find it extremely hard to find a job! Has anyone been in similar situation and managed to find a job? Is there any tips, advice you could share with me? It will be much appreciated.

Hi @Donna413
Jobs you can perform after completing AAT Level 2 may have an administrative emphasis, and will also allow you to make use of the basic accounting skills you've learned during your studies.
Roles you might want to consider applying for include:- Finance Assistant
- Bookkeeper
- Accounts Administrator
- Payroll Administrator
- Data entry
- Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk
What transferable skills do you have which would be of benefit to an employer? What extra-curricular activities have you carried out that demonstrate your worth as a reliable, responsible team-player?
An increasing number of AAT members start out with some voluntary work as a way to get work experience. This counts towards your AAT work experience and demonstrates your commitment to your career. Make sure you manage your time effectively, though - whether you do paid or unpaid work, you should make sure you can fit it around your studies. As an AAT student member you'll have access to a range of CPD resources which can help you manage your time, from articles and webinars/podcasts to events through the nationwide AAT branch network. Ensure you make the most of these resources, the majority of which are free.
We have several threads on this subject which you may find useful to read.
RegardsI have now left AAT. If you require any assistance with the forums, please contact membership support: https://www.aat.org.uk/contact-us1 - Finance Assistant

Hi Donna, I am the same. I have been working in Finance for 8 years (I am 24 also) but never worked directly in the Accounting Department. I have completed Level 2 and cannot see to get any gateway into getting experience!AAT Level 2

Hi @ChristianB ,
Thank you for your response. I have tried using my previous work experience to my advantage. I used to work as a bar manager where big part of my job was spent in the office. I worked with Microsoft packages, dealt with phone enquires, invoices and suppliers. I had to reconcile tills at the begging and end of the night, I had to keep system up to date but it doesn't seem to be good enough. I understand employers choose best of their candidates who already have experience they require. I've applied for some voluntary work, but expectations are quite high and many of them expect full time hours, which unfortunately I can't afford because I've got a 3 year old son and childcare will have to be paid.
Hello @sashalousmith ,
I hope you'll find something in accounts soon, at least you have years of experience in finance0 -
