I have recently become self employed as a security guard the company I subcontractor work from is registered as a construction company and has benz making a 20% deduction from my invoice for cis payments I have spoken to the cis help line and they have informed me these are illegal deductions and contractor should top this. How ever I have had numerous conversations with the contractor and he is adamant that he is right in making these deductions how do I stop him from making these deductions any help would be really highly appreciated thank you

Yes as you are not working in construction yourself cis is not applicable to you. I'm assuming that you are not registered as a subcontractor and therefore deductions of 20% are incorrect anyway! I'm sorry I'm not sure where you would go from here except to go back to HMRC or ask your own accountant to intervene.0
