Missed self assessment deadline for PAYE tax adjustment

Can anyone help me please. If a self assessment is submitted after the December deadline for repayment through PAYE is HMRC ever lenient or does the payment always have to be made in full?

    The deadline is the deadline. They could try calling HMRC payment difficulties line to request payment by installments and offer for them to adjust her PAYE coding.

    Thanks for your help. A friend just submitted and has a tax repayment to make due to child benefit payments and being a higher rate taxpayer. He was prepared for the repayment by PAYE not realising the December deadline. If only he had mentioned it......
