Company formation agents

Morning all,
Do any of you use the services of a company formation agent or do you DIY (model articles at co house)?
There are many to choose from and prices do vary considerably. Some seem even cheaper than the co house fee itself! What extra do you get and what do you really need?
I'd be grateful for any feedback.
Incidentally if my licence doesn't include company secretarial services I assume I can not do it myself?
