ACCA for management accountant role

Hi

I have chosen to do ACCA and am almost done with F4.
I am however suddenly concerned that I have chosen the wrong path i.e. may be I should have chosen CIMA.

This is because I am generally more interested in management accounting as opposed to financial accounting. I enjoy the analytical nature of budgeting and forecasting my role ( I am currently finance manager of a charity).

For those of you doing ACCA, would you say the syllabus covers enough to enable to me to be a successful management accountant?

I feel like I'm early enough into it to make a switch to CIMA..

Your comments are much appreciated,.

Thanks

:-)

I am not studying ACCA currently but have been ACCA qualified for 20 plus years now.

I work in the public sector and am responsible for Management accounting, Financial accounting, Technical accounting, Treasury Management, Capital Accounting, Payroll services and Exchequer Services.

Apart from the dedicated Payroll and Exchequer teams, everyone else in the team is involved in both financial and management accounting, at least. If team members want to study beyond AAT we will only consider CCAB bodies (which currently excludes CIMA). I consider that all the CCAB bodies deal with management accounting sufficiently to provide the basis for career development in that area. Being an ACCA and AAT member rather than a CIPFA or CIMA member has not hampered my career in any field of accounting/auditing that I have worked in.

I am almost ACCA qualified and I would definitely describe my job as more Mgmt Accounting. About half of us are ACCA and half are CIMA (with a couple of ACA exceptions). It makes absolutely no difference. I chose ACCA as I felt it gave me more options and I'm still happy with
    that choice.

    Hi NPS
That's good to know. That is the reason I chose ACCA too, but then started worrying about whether it would suit my aspirations. By the sounds of it, it will do.
Good luck with your final exams! What options are you taking?
