Help!!! Stuck on different ledgers

Hi I've just started aat level 2 and I'm struggling to get the hang of what goes in which ledger. Obviously I no that sales goes in the sales ledger and purchasers in purchase ledger, but I'm struggling with the general ledger mainly and need a way if possible to remember what information should go into it. I have the Kaplan books which i don't find helpful on this subject so looking for some advice please. Also I keep thinking I've got the gist of debut and credit and then then I'm suddenly confused again. Maybe I'm trying too hard to understand this and making it more difficult for myself ??
