Is AAT useful?/Forgetting what you've learned

Hi, I am currently studying the AAT level 3 and was just wondering how useful is the AAT going to be in the real workplace. Like, do you use all the skills you learn from the AAT? Specifically CSTR, would cost accounting be part of the role of an accounts assistant?
Also, for people who are studying AAT "raw" without working alongside, isn't it worrying that once you've completed one module (Lets say Accounts Prep 2) and you move onto another unit, you end up forgetting some/half of what you learned in accounts prep. Does everything come back to you when you start working?
Thank you!
