A level accounting then level 3?

I'm considering self-teaching A level accounting, then possibly going on to do level 3.

My reasoning is that the books and exams are cheaper for A level than for level 2- I'd only be forking out £122 for books and exams for both the AS and A2, as opposed to £600+ for registration, exam fees and materials for level 2.

I'd rather go for the cheaper option as I'm wanting to make sure accounting is for me before I commit to paying a large amount of money. Also, I've heard that A level actually gives you a more comprehensive cover of the subject, and is actually more difficult than level 2.

What do you think? Is this a terrible idea?
