VAT receipt

help!
this isn't student related but I have a problem at work and we haven't covered tax yet in level 3. My work went for a staff meal paid for by the company. We have asked for a VAT receipt and have just been given a receipt with the VAT number on it. My boss thinks this may be enough but I'm sure we need the VAT amount broken down as it was a mix of food, alcohol and soft drinks so I'm unsure how much I need to claim.

A receipt displaying the VAT number will satisfy the requirements of any inspection or audit.

I'd also consult the HMRC website if you're still unsure on any specific items but generally speaking any hot food, alcohol or soft drinks would be subject to the standard rate of tax.
