ATT after AAT

Does anybody know if you can get ATT qualified if you run your own practice? Heard you need 6 months experience in a tax department before you could take your first exam.

Yes to the first question - it is worth networking with ATT members who can recommend you for membership.
You need to be a student member for 6 months before you can take an exam - well that used to be the case.

I would give the ATT a call.
The requirements are that you have a minimum of 2 years experience in tax or in a job relating to tax, and your application must be sponsored by a chartered accountant or tax adviser or equivalent. I don't think you need the experience prior to starting the exams.0 -
I've been an MIP for over 2 years so does that count with regards to the tax requirement?
I am sure I can find a chartered accountant to help, if it comes to it.FMAAT, AAT Licensed Accountant and CIMA finalist1 -
It's always better to call the ATT, as mentioned above.
The difference between working for yourself, and working for another 'usually' only comes into play when studying, or working towards membership of ACCA and ACA.
A full member of the ATT/CIOT can verify your work.0 -
Will do. ThanksFMAAT, AAT Licensed Accountant and CIMA finalist0
