Which software is best for self-employed?

I'm unsure which software to purchase to keep clients' records. I have no clients yet but it does not harm to start looking. I am familiar with many as I have used quite a few over the years working for large companies and industries (SAP, JD Edwards, Navision etc). I have never really worked for small businesses hence why I'm uncertain what to buy and the size I should start of with. I wouldn't want to have to go out and purchase another one months later.
I don't really want to do manual bookkeeping either.
Cheers for your help!
