Training Provider or Self Study

I am sure this has been covered already so if so please let me know the correct thread.
I am currently self studying AAT 2 and am soon to move onto the Accounting Software module. I can see you can buy the tutorial book from Osborne (which I have been doing) and I believe you can get a trial period using sage.
Reading up when it was the aq2013 I was under the impression you had to study this with a training provider however I am now seeing information which leads me to think you can self study this.
Any help greatly appreciated.
