Experience of getting refund of VAT paid twice?

Client forgot that she has a direct debit for VAT and has already paid - it's quite a big amount for her cash flow so would rather not leave it on account. Does anyone know how easy it is to get the money back? Anyone happy to share their experience before I call HMRC? Thanks!

Call HMRC. Have the client's bank account details to hand. I had exactly the same problem last year and HMRC refunded by cheque (even though I gave them the bank account details). Make sure HMRC have the client's correct address just in case they send a cheque. The whole process lasted around 1 month.1
